How to Cancel Your Amazon Prime Free Trial (Without Getting Charged)

Last verified: October 20, 2026, against Amazon, Apple and Google help pages.

Amazon's Prime free trial lasts 30 days for eligible new members. When it ends, it automatically becomes a paid membership. In the US that's currently $14.99/month or $139/year plus tax (Amazon Prime Membership Fee). Young Adults get a six-month trial instead, then pay $7.49/month or $69/year.

The good news is that you can cancel any time during the trial and keep your free benefits until the trial ends. Amazon says that if you choose "End Trial and Benefits," you "receive benefits until your free trial period ends. Then your membership will cancel, and your payment card won't be charged" (Amazon Help). There's no reason to wait until the last day.

Quick answer

  1. Go to Your Account → Manage Prime Membership (or straight to Amazon's Cancel Your Prime Membership page).
  2. Select Update, cancel, and more.
  3. Choose End trial and benefits and confirm.

That's it. Your free trial keeps running until its end date, and you won't be charged.

Step 1: Check where you signed up

This step trips most people up. You have to cancel in the same place you started the trial.

  • Signed up on amazon.com or the Amazon Shopping app: cancel on Amazon (web or app, below).
  • Signed up through Google Play on Android: Amazon says you "must manage [your] subscription through Google Subscription services" (Amazon Help).
  • Signed up through another company (a phone carrier or a bundle): contact that company. Amazon says that "if your Prime Membership is associated with another company's service, contact them to cancel" (Amazon Help).

Not sure? Search your email for the trial confirmation. The sender (Amazon, Google Play or your carrier) tells you where to cancel.

How to cancel on the web (desktop or mobile browser)

  1. Sign in at amazon.com.
  2. Open Account & Lists → Your Account → Prime (the Manage Prime Membership page).
  3. Click Update, cancel, and more.
  4. Click End trial and benefits (Amazon Help).
  5. Amazon shows you what you'll lose, sometimes across several screens. Keep clicking the cancel option until you see a confirmation.
  6. Save the confirmation (screenshot or email). If you don't get one, the cancellation probably didn't go through.

How to cancel on iPhone or iPad

Prime itself is normally billed by Amazon, not Apple, so cancel it in the Amazon Shopping app or a browser, not in iPhone Settings.

  1. Open the Amazon Shopping app (not the Prime Video app).
  2. Tap the profile/account icon (or the ☰ menu, depending on your app version) → Your Account.
  3. Tap Manage Prime Membership → Manage Membership.
  4. Tap End Membership (shown as "End trial" on a trial) and follow the prompts until you see a confirmation.

Exception: if you subscribed to something through Apple (for example, an add-on billed to your Apple Account), cancel that in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → [subscription] → Cancel Subscription (Apple Support). Apple advises cancelling a trial at least 24 hours before it ends.

How to cancel on Android

If you signed up on Amazon (the app or the website), use the same Amazon Shopping app steps as on iPhone above.

If you signed up through Google Play:

  1. Open the Google Play app and go to Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
  2. Select Amazon Prime.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions (Google Play Help).

Google notes that uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription. Google may also place an authorization hold on your payment method up to 48 hours before a renewal.

Already charged? How to get a refund

Amazon's Prime refund rules are friendlier than most:

  • Cancelled within 3 business days of being converted to paid: Amazon's Terms say it "will refund your full membership fee," minus the value of any Prime benefits you used during those 3 days (Prime Terms & Conditions).
  • Haven't used any Prime benefits since the charge: you're eligible for a full refund of the current period. Amazon says refunds take 3–5 business days (Amazon Help).
  • Used some benefits: you may get a partial or prorated refund depending on your region and membership type.
  • Paid through Google Play: refunds follow Google Play's policies, and Google says contacting the developer (here, Amazon) "is often the quickest way" (Google Play refund policies).
  • Prime from a gift or promo code: not refundable under Amazon's Terms.

Tips that actually help:

  1. Act fast. The 3-business-day window is the easiest refund to get.
  2. Stop using Prime (no Prime shipping, no Prime Video) until the refund is done. Using benefits can cut your refund.
  3. If the self-serve flow doesn't offer a refund, go to Customer Service → Something else → I need help with something else and ask a person.
  4. Check the confirmation email, then check your statement 3–5 business days later.

Don't forget your Prime Video channels

Cancelling Prime doesn't automatically cancel Prime Video channel subscriptions like Paramount+. Amazon says these "will continue once your Prime Membership ends" (Amazon Help). Cancel them separately under Memberships & Subscriptions.

FAQ

If I cancel my Prime trial today, do I lose access right away? No. With "End trial and benefits," you keep Prime benefits until the original trial end date, and you won't be charged.

When does Amazon charge me after the free trial? When the 30-day trial (six months for Young Adults) ends, Amazon "will automatically charge for the next membership period."

Can I get a refund after being charged for Prime? Usually yes, if you act quickly or haven't used benefits. Amazon refunds the full fee if you cancel within 3 business days of conversion (less any benefits used in that window), or if you haven't used any Prime benefits since the charge.

I cancelled on my iPhone but I'm still being charged. Why? You probably cancelled in the wrong place. Prime started on Amazon has to be cancelled on Amazon. Prime started through Google Play or a carrier has to be cancelled there. Look up who billed you on your card statement or in your email receipt.

Does deleting the Amazon or Prime Video app cancel Prime? No. Deleting an app never cancels a subscription.

Can Amazon remind me before it renews? In some regions, Amazon's Manage Prime Membership page has a "Remind me before renewing" option. It isn't available if your renewal is within 3 days (Amazon Help, Australia). That only covers Prime, though. Your other trials need their own reminders.

Never pay for a forgotten free trial again

Prime is easy once you know where the button is. The hard part is remembering, for Prime and for every other trial you start.

TrialGuard handles that. Forward the trial's sign-up email to TrialGuard, and it will remind you 2 days before you're charged (now in early access).
